Modest Fashion Day was held in Kazan as part of the XV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum." The event showcased 10 fashion shows featuring designers from various countries including France, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Russia, Senegal, and the UAE. Russian brands like BURO BANU from Kazan, Zuhat from Moscow and ALENA MUSAEVA from Volgograd, well-known for their participation in Moscow Fashion Week, were among the highlights. International labels such as Melinda Looi from Malaysia, MONIKA JUFRY from Indonesia, Dalinda Paris from France, Moda Safi and Thoraya Al Awadhi from the UAE, Senegal Fashion Show, and Nurzat Zheenbek from Kyrgyzstan also presented their collections.
Each brand drew inspiration from its cultural heritage and traditions, infusing their designs with unique details, colors, and textures that showcased the essence and history of modest fashion from around the world.
Dalinda Paris (France)
The French brand Dalinda Paris, the epitome of elegance and luxury, seamlessly blends innovative design solutions with grace. Creative director Dalinda Ghoul aimed to capture the style of Arab women, celebrating their modesty and enchanting beauty. Through a harmonious blend of Eastern influences and contemporary European fashion aesthetic, the designer masterfully crafted a collection that was both memorable and sophisticated. The collection featured a captivating array of hues, such as emerald, kelly green, crimson, and other vibrant color palettes. The garments were adorned with intricate embroidery, delicate lace, and large sparkling stones, adding a touch of glamour and refinement to the overall aesthetic.
Zuhat (Moscow, Russia)
Embracing the beauty of dark tones, Zuhat's collection is a symphony of understated elegance, redefining the allure of muted hues. A focal point of the collection, the monochrome black ensembles exude sophistication with its intricate embellishments. Melinda Looi, one of Malaysia's most renowned designers, is rightfully hailed as a pioneer of avant-garde in the country's fashion industry. The collection featured elements of mermaidcore, naive style, and Renaissance flair. The garments were adorned with both large and small sequins, while skirts with trains evoked images of royal attire or mermaid tails.
Vibrant bursts of color and playful prints evoked the carefree spirit of childhood days. The collection radiated vibrancy and splendor, showcasing the importance of style experiments.
Moda Safi (UAE)
The Moda Safi brand beautifully blends modesty into fashion, creating a harmonious balance. At Modest Fashion Day, the Kazan-based brand BURO BANU mesmerized the audience with a captivating showcase of their RIVAYAT (LEGEND) collection, narrating the story of the world’s creation. Their 2024 collection, MYAGNYA VAKYTY (TIME OF MEANINGS), paid tribute to the evolution of Tatar women's style throughout history. Drawing from ornate patterns reminiscent of 19th-century embroidery and incorporating traditional elements such as tubeteika and casaquin alongside contemporary cuts and fabrics, the collection introduced fresh and harmonious looks that seamlessly blend into the modern urban landscape.
MONIKA JUFRY (Indonesia)
Creative director Monika Jufry flew in from the enchanting landscapes of Indonesia to unveil her captivating vision of modest fashion. Embracing the idea that beauty thrives in simplicity, the collection exuded a sense of lightness and elegance. The designer deftly blended refined silhouettes with contemporary design elements, a fusion that has become the signature of the MONIKA JUFRY brand. Delicate floral prints, textured fabrics, subtle hues, and flowing materials form the core DNA of the brand, embodying a sense of understated sophistication.
Thoraya Al Awadhi (UAE)
Hailing from the vibrant UAE, the Thoraya Al Awadhi brand unveiled a radiant collection that exuded the essence of sunshine. Vibrant traditional garments adorned with shimmering sequins and blossoming floral prints effortlessly transported us to the designer's homeland. Infusing the collection with a modern twist, the designer artfully blended Arabic motifs with contemporary tie-dye prints and abstract elements, creating a seamless fusion of heritage and futurism.
ALENA MUSAEVA (Volgograd, Russia)
The essence of the ALENA MUSAEVA brand is deeply rooted in cultural heritage and the unique identities of different communities. From its inception, the designer has been dedicated to honoring their origins by infusing elements of folklore with a contemporary
flair. Embracing current fashion trends, the designer showcased a harmonious blend of masculine tailoring with flowing silhouettes, such as pairing jackets with big shoulders alongside voluminous bombers and delicate skirts. An iconic feature of the collection was the intricate elongated peplum, elegantly layered over ensembles. At times, lightweight fabrics gave way to luxurious leather, creating a captivating interplay of textures, subtle hues, and materials that cast a spellbinding allure.
Nurzat Zheenbek (Kyrgyzstan)
Originating from Kyrgyzstan, the brand has embraced its unique identity as the cornerstone of its creative vision. Each handcrafted piece in the collection is meticulously woven from natural fibers sourced worldwide using the traditional Ala kiyiz technique. Nurzat Zheenbek's collection showcases a dynamic fusion of shapes, textures, and vibrant color schemes that breathe life into each garment. Beyond the clothing, the brand's ingenuity shines through in the form of statement accessories like bold coloured tights and hats, adding an extra layer of charm.
Senegal Fashion Show (Senegal)
Brands from the Senegal Fashion Show dazzled with a vibrant display of colors, opulent ensembles adorned with intricate embroideries and shimmering gemstones that added a touch of radiance to each piece. The prints used throughout the collection further amplified this striking effect, creating a visual feast for the senses.
